A recent launch by Chobani in America has highlighted the rise of Sriracha as a rapidly growing flavour trend. Chobani is America’s number 1 Greek yogurt brand and the ‘flip’ brand is leading their innovation, corner pots with a ‘mash up’ of flavour profiles, the two new varieties incorporating chilli with fruit.
Chipotle & Pineapple and Sriracha & Mango have just launched with Peanut Butter & Jelly and the more traditionally rooted Peppermint perfection, the chilli products seemingly proving that the sweet/savoury trend is still at the forefront of new product development, a fact backed up by the ever enduring salted caramel in the UK.
However a glance at the US QSR trends shows Sriracha is hot (literally) across this sector too. In December TGI launched a Sriracha Buffalo wing, Sonic added a Sriracha seasoned popcorn Chicken and Taco Bell produced a Sriracha Chicken crunchwrap slider. This is on the back of high profile launches at Papa Johns, Burger King and Your Pie in October and November.
Given these fast growing flavour trends often migrate from the US to our market via the global food manufacturers and retailers it surely won’t be long until we are seeing a demand for new product launches with this versatile hot sauce.
